IACUC Tip of the Month
- All Principal Investigators (PI) and laboratory personnel involved in animal procedures should have access to the IACUC protocol (eIACUC) and be knowledgeable of the animal activities as described in the protocol. To ensure protocol compliance, the IACUC recommends that the PI and laboratory staff perform a periodic review of the IACUC protocol. The IACUC has developed a Self-Guided Evaluation to assist with this review (evaluation tool).
The IACUC re-reviews all existing Policies and Standard Procedures on a triennial basis

During its most recent meetings the IACUC approved updates to the following Policy & Standard Procedures (found in the eIACUC library and in the eIACUC protocol form):
Policy:
- Sterility of Surgical Instruments and other Medical Materials
- Added definitions: must, should, may
- Change: bead sterilization of surgical instruments appropriate for up to five successive survival procedures on multiple mice, rats, or non-mammalians species within a given day
- Change: bead sterilization is appropriate for tips of instruments only
- Updated references

- Barbiturate overdose euthanasia (rodent)
- Cervical dislocation under isoflurane anesthesia (rodent)
- Cervical dislocation under ketamine and xylazine anesthesia (rodent)
- Non-invasive measurements of body composition using EchoMRI (rodent)
