IACUC announcements (Updated: June 2, 2025)
IACUC Tip of the Month
- The IACUC is responsible for ensuring drugs and materials used in animals are stored properly, are within date and are labeled properly per the Expired Drugs and Medical Supplies in Laboratory Animals policy. If you store substances in your lab that are used in animals, even if the IACUC doesn’t regularly inspect the lab space, it is the IACUC’s expectation that all applicable policies and regulations are followed.
- The IACUC and our regulatory bodies can ask to inspect the drugs/materials during routine inspections. Recurrent self-inspection for expiration dates is strongly recommended by the IACUC. Expired anesthetics and analgesics should be immediately discarded. The IACUC office has developed a pre-inspection checklist to assist labs, and it can be found HERE. Please reach out to the IACUC office at [email protected] if you have any questions.
The IACUC re-reviews all existing Standard Procedures on a triennial basis
